Abstract
The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the effects of a 13% sodium bicarbonate, 1.5% calcium peroxide, and 0.76% sodium monofluorophosphate dentifrice on the prevention of gingivitis.
36 subjests completed a 1 month, double blind clinical study which examined the effects of a 13% sodium bicarbonate, 1.5% calcium peroxide, and 0.76% sodium monofluorophosphate dentifrice on the prevention of gingivitis. Control dentifrice had the same formulation with experimental dentifrice except it did not contain sodium bicarbonate and calcium peroxide.
The subjects were divided by experimental and control group. Experimental and control dentifrices were given to subjects according to assigned group. The subjects assigned to use these dentifrices for the next 1 month.
Gingival index were scored 3 times : before dividing group, after 2 weeks of use of each dentifrice, after 4 weeks of use of each dentifrice. Gingival index which modified Lae and Sillness¢¥ were used to score- the gingivitis.

The obtained results were as follows:

1. There was no significant reduction of gingivitis between sodium bicarbonate dentifrice and control dentifrice after 2 weeks(p>0.05).
2. There was a statistically significant reduction of gingivitis by using sodium bicarbonate dentifrice in comparison with control dentifrice after 4 weeks(p<0.05).
